Cadogan Square, Kensington
Internal reconfiguration within a Grade II-listed terrace in the Hans Town Conservation Area
This project involves the careful reconfiguration and amalgamation of two second-floor flats within a grand, Grade II-listed terrace by George Thomas Robinson, set in the heart of Kensington’s prestigious Cadogan Square.
The two flats are being fully redesigned to create a single, generous three-bedroom apartment. The proposals include modest internal alterations to improve spatial flow, introduce a new kitchen/living area, and provide contemporary ensuite accommodation and air-conditioning — all without any change to the building’s external appearance.
Although the property is listed and lies within the Hans Town Conservation Area, the interiors have been significantly altered over time, particularly during their 1950s conversion. As such, most of the proposed works affect only modern partitions and finishes, with key areas of historic fabric carefully preserved.
The proposals are heritage-led, respecting the legibility of the original plan where possible and enhancing the apartment’s layout for modern living. The design reflects a light-touch approach to conservation, supported by a detailed heritage assessment and informed by previous opening-up works.
